INTERVIEW WITH HORSEBITES!!!

November 23rd, 2009 by travis

Oh Monday, where did the weekend go? Mine was buried under trash cans that are 7 billion years old + tax. I smell like a color that hasn’t been invented yet.

I had the sweet opportunity to opportunity to interview the legendary Horsebites. For those unaware, Horsebites is an accomplished artist out of Florida and has designed numerous projects for us including the classic “Yucko” and “Deathproof” pieces. He likes to play drums. He likes to sip brewskis. We got into an argument over burritos and tears of a certain gypsy prince. Enjoy:

Since you’re in about five hundred bands, what are your current musical projects you have brewing?

Yes, it’s true. I’m in too many bands that I can handle. No, not really. I’m only in 3 which sort of sounds like a lot but all three barely play that often so it’s not that bad. I play drums in None More Black (philly/NYC area), Gatorface (Orlando) and No Friends (Orlando, RVA).
We barely tour in any of the bands and it’s all mainly for fun and whenever we feel like recording a new record. It’s real nice because I can actually save money now and not go in debt because only 3 people are showing up to our show in Potatoville, Idaho.
I’m also considering starting that band you wanted to do but Rob said he was a master skin flute player and I’m just learning the male organ. Oh well, hopefully someday we can get it going.

Hopefully one day ill have the BALLS to complete this male jam band.

What is more rewarding to you as an artist: the completion of a song and performing it live in front of an audience or a completed piece of art that has been approved by a client?

It sort of feels like two different worlds to me so it’s a little hard to compare. I would definitely say that my passion leans a little more in the art world since I’ve been doing it ever since I could remember so I guess art. Besides, if you fuck up in a drawing or something you can always go back and fix your mistakes as opposed to fucking up a song then you look like a dumb ass and embarrassed.

Extremely valid point. it adds to the raw complexity of performing your art as opposed to displaying it.

I have discussed the black axe with two other conspirators in that artistic posse previously. Taking another angle, what would you like to expand on as a company in the near future outside of what you are doing already?

Well, we definitely throw around a lot of wacky ideas and it’s really nice to know that most of them as a team could pull it off. We have plans of doing some iPhone apps and we’re in the process of working on some new super secret websites. I wish I could I speak of them but then they would cut off my lips and tie my fingers together. That’s the rule. No, for real. They made me sign my life away when we started and I’m sort of scared. Caaaall the police.

Hopefully continuing in the same rich ideas as GROSS OUT! That site is fantastic.

Yeah, I’m super proud of GROSS OUT! That is my jam!

Tell the readers a bit about your work environment when working on a piece.

I don’t really have any thing super special for a working environment. The one thing I do love is that I have huge windows surrounding my drawing desk. I really can’t stand working in artificial light. It’s actually a good thing cause it keeps me starting early in the day and finishing up when the rest of my friends are done with their regular work hours.

Since my name is Richard can we name this the Rikki Rockett interview?

I’m all about that, richie rackett.

What are your extra curricular activities when you aren’t beating the skins and mashing out designs?

Definitely motorcycle riding. I picked up a 1971 Honda CB350 that I’m in love with. My roommate also has a cafe racer and a Harley Sportster so we go riding a lot.
I mainly do that and hang out with my friends and girlfriend as often as possible. There’s nothing better than riding your motorcycle to your friends house and chilling with them and killing a few beers. I sound so white trash. Well I guess brown trash.

The american dream!

For sure!

Where do you look to for inspiration when creating art? music, movies, etc.

Sometimes movie and TV but weirdly enough I usually find it at the mall. HA! Whenever I go to the mall I end up seeing patterns and stuff that sparks something in my head and I usually walk out of there with some pretty good ideas of want I do.

that kid is back on the escalator!!!

Hate that kid.

Ok this is one I have been dying to know for many moons. On the “yucko” design you did for us, there is a noticeable phallic resemblance to a finger at the bottom of the t shirt. when strategically placed through a a zipper hole, it looks awesome and serves as a cool party trick. RIkki, was this intentional?!

HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really wish I could tell I planned that out. I actually didn’t even realize that until I got my shirt in the mail and showed my friend. He immediately noticed and said dude check out your weiner!!!

I died laughing and contacted Rob right after that and told him it was unintentional. After that I still laughed because every pic of every band I saw wearing that just looked like a little pink dingy staring at me!

You know you are doing something right when your friend tells you to check out your own weiner. What a rousing conclusion to an unsolved mystery.

HA HA. You kind of just melted my mind for a second.

That about wraps it up my friend, anything you want to plug now is the time to do it.

Sweet! I’ll plug this:

About Rockett Clothing

Rockett Clothing was formed in Redlands California in 2003. Since its inception, they have basically lost their minds. Up is left, down is pizza, and tall cans flow like the salmon of Capistrano.

Using party atmospheres and late night films such as "Rollerblade" and "Hell comes to Frogtown" as inspiration, Rockett have forged a clothing culture that they couldn't be happier with. Their clothing has been worn by David Spade, Fergie, and some homeless dude who claimed he could turn wine into water. Keep on truckin' dudes. - Stolen from krudmart.com
